Cambridge CELTA

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Certified by the University of Cambridge the CELTA course is the most internationally recognised TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate available.  Offered since the 1960s and taught in over 50 countries, the CELTA is an industry benchmark for those wanting to teach English in Australia or overseas.

Highly practical in nature, the course provides participants not only with an understanding of communicative teaching methodologies and language, but also the opportunity to put these into practice by teaching real classes. Offered face-to-face as a 4 week full time or 12 week part time course you will gain the confidence and ability to plan and teach independently.

Designed For

CELTA is for native or near native English speakers who want to turn their interest and enthusiasm for language, travel and other cultures into a career or unique travel experience.  You may never have taught before or speak a second language, you may already be a teacher at a primary or secondary level, or have experience teaching English and now want to formalise your experience with an internationally recognised qualification.

CERTIFICATION & RECOGNITION

The CELTA certificate issued by the University of CambridgeThe CELTA certificate is issued by the University of Cambridge.

Our graduates can gain the dual certification of the Certificate IV in TESOL and the Cambridge CELTA.  This unique opportunity exists because the International House Certificate IV in TESOL course has been designed to align with the syllabus of the Cambridge CELTA course.  By completing the course work for one programme you can qualify for both certificates.  Graduates benefit from the international recognition of the Cambridge CELTA and can gain government funding under the Youth Allowance and Austudy schemes.  Dual certification is available for a small administration fee.

The Cambridge CELTA is the qualification of choice for language teaching professionals and their employers worldwide.  For a listing of current teaching positions available worldwide see our job board.

In Australia CELTA meets the requirements for a qualification allowing you to teach in NEAS accredited private language schools and university language centres. (Please note the other requirements necessary to work in accredited Australian schools.)  Overseas CELTA is your ticket to teach in private language schools such as IH, EF and the British Council, public schools, colleges and university language departments.

Every CELTA intake is externally audited by a Cambridge appointed assessor who visits the centre, moderates your teaching portfolio, observes teaching practice and oversees course grading.  This is your guarantee of quality and just as importantly a guarantee for employers who are seeking consistency in qualification standards and graduate capabilities.  The same cannot be said of any other TESOL or TEFL qualification.

Universities worldwide recognise the CELTA course towards further related studies.
